Your air conditioner requires regular preventative maintenance in order to function properly and run efficiently. This is why the HVAC experts at Fresh Air Concepts have outlined several HVAC Maintenance Tips for Homeowners, tips designed to help maximize the efficiency of your HVAC system and save you money on your monthly utility bills. This week, we are going to focus on Cleaning Air Conditioner Components.
Over time, dirt, grime, and other debris can find its way into your condenser fan (outside unit). When this happens, efficiency suffers, which is why annual cleanings are so important. Fortunately, cleaning is easy. Simply remove the cover grille and use a garden hose to clean the inside condenser coils. If you notice the fins are bent, you can straighten them at this time using a tool called a fin comb.
Of course, as we mentioned in one of our previous blogs, it is also important to change your air filter ever 2-3 months (more frequently if you have pets, allergies, or smoke).
Basic air conditioning maintenance will provide you with a much more comfortable home and lower utility bills. Of course, some things should be left to the professionals. This is why Fresh Air Concepts has designed several maintenance plans to help increase the energy efficiency of your system and extend its useful life. To learn more about these types of maintenance plans, read our previous blog, “HVAC Maintenance Tips for Homeowners: HVAC Maintenance Agreement Benefits.”
